Good Day 8th grade Schuyler Families,
This year’s class of 2021 will have their graduation held via Virtually.
We will have our Virtual Graduation on TUESDAY, JUNE 22, 2021, at 9:30 AM.
A few parents have reached out inquiring about the Virtual Graduation, so let me try and answer all of your questions in one shot.
Mayor De Blasio announced in March that Graduations could be held in person, HOWEVER, there are gathering limitations.
I believe the limits are: Indoor in-person ceremony, you cannot have more than 100 people.
For the outdoor ceremony, you cannot have more than 150 -200.
Our School Yard cannot hold more than 100 people with the social distancing restrictions so that is not an option, even if we had fewer Graduates, which we do not.
Our class of 2021 has 272 8th grade students. So even if our students had NO guests, I would still be over the numbers by over 100 people.
Each graduate in the past (before COVID) was able to get 3 tickets each. That total will now bring our numbers to around 1,200 people. There is nowhere in NYC that will allow a gathering of 1,200 people with the updated COVID restrictions. Therefore, so that we all graduate together as a whole group, a virtual graduation is the only “Equitable” way to it.
We had our graduation last year done virtually and our staff did an amazing job of making it as special as possible. There were some features that could be included in the virtual graduation that we could not have done if we were live. I understand that it does not take the place of being in person. Nothing does, but due to the large group of graduates, we are not able to do it in person this June 2021.
I understand that this is a special moment for our children and we will do everything in our power to keep it special for them.
Please save the date and time for our Class of 2021 Virtual 8th Grade Schuyler Graduation.
