Jazz dance is a mixture of dance styles. The movements and choreography alternates between upbeat movements and very lyrical movements. This is the most advanced of all the major dance classes. Technique and stamina are two important components for this class. As a result, this class is for the serious and focused dancer. The class uses different styles of music that also helps in the creativity and performance of movements. Students will also learn dance improvisation, dance terminology, dance history, dance making skills, anatomy and the use of muscles, dance literacy, nutrition, dance projects and performance tasks.

The instructors are not only educators, but also artists, that believe students can experience education beyond the classroom through dance. They strive to engage students in a life affecting experience that increases cultural competencies, embraces community, emanates wellness, and ignites a passion for lifelong learning.

In order to be enrolled in this course, most students audition in the 5th, 6th, or 7th grades.

This class performs in both the Winter and Spring Concerts.
