Modern dance is a more free, relaxed form of dance that uses emotion and mood to create and design dance movements. Although the technique uses a structured form of dance, it also focuses in creative self-expression.

In order to be enrolled in this course, most students audition in the 5th, 6th, or 7th grades.

This class focuses on different modern dance techniques. Teachers will use different styles of music to assist in developing creative movements to perform. Students will also learn dance improvisation, dance terminology, dance history, dance making skills, anatomy and use of the muscles, dance literacy, nutrition, along with working on dance projects and performance tasks.

The instructors are not only educators, but also artists, that believe students can experience education beyond the classroom through dance. They strive to engage students in a life affecting experience that increases cultural competencies, embraces community, emanates wellness, and ignites a passion for lifelong learning.

Students enrolled in the class perform in both the Winter and Spring Concerts.
