First Ms. Wigdorsky spoke on, in person learning returning to the school building, February 25th.

On Monday, announced by CHanceller and Mayor that middle schools will reopen for in person learning on February 25.

Some students will come back 5 days a week. The first week back and the following week. We are working on bringing back more students to building within CDC guidelines and proper social distancing practices.

Some classrooms have a cap at 13, depending on size. Some larger rooms can accommodate more individuals. Everyone entering the building must wear a mask and must have a signed COVID consent form to be tested weekly and must fill out a health screening survey every day before entering the building.

There are hand sanitizing stations in the classroom and every classroom will have an air purifier as well as other PPE in the classroom.

Students will NOT be permitted to use lockers. Bookbags and coats will be kept in the classroom. They will be kept with the same cohort in the classroom for the enter day except for transitioning to elective classes. Lunches will continue to be served in the classroom during the instructional period. Hot lunches will be served in the classroom.

5 day instruction students were sent a one call notification and a pupil path email and the students were notified in google classroom by their teachers. Classes staying in A and B rotation will follow the rotation schedule for in person and blended.

Goal 2

Overall Absenteeism is 8% of 889 students in February 20/21

Ms. Wigdorsky reviews over 3 subgoals on overall/ELL/SWD the meeting. Goals and Charts will be made available.

We have an attendance committee that meets weekly to discuss, review and manage chronic absenteeism. Action plans are created and phone calls are made.

Absentee list is given to school aides to make daily calls after morning attendance is taken. Students that are chronically absent will be sent letters home directly from the DOE on resources that family can use, starting February 22nd. There is an opt-out feature for the letter as well. You can check your child’s attendance on the nyc schools account.

SWD will be going back 5 days a week if they had opted into in-person learning.

Goal 3

5:02 PM. Ms Vergara discusses a Questionnaire on possible ideas to put on the table for future SLT meetings geared towards the Schulyer community at large.

Meeting attendees think independently on ideas.

Breakout rooms for discussion start at 5:07pm

Discussing activities to bring students together

What can we offer students the opportunity who have fallen behind the opportunity to catch up on their work.

Sanchez – Students want a time to meet during lunch and have a luncheon with the teacher and other students to talk. Students want time for clubs with their friends. Can we have spirit days for the students/school?

Richards – When we bring the students back, set up a zoom for them to discuss changes during the pandemic. They can discuss what has changed about their world, about them, about school, they discuss with a teacher monitor. Students need to have an outlet to address emotional needs before they come back. Beautiful Me – an uplifting and empowering group for women.

Gomez – Children’s voices should be heard in the planning process. Students have a team building group based on STEM problem solving or group activity or on their interests.

Slaughter – in month agenda we can incorporate the student voice piece into the agenda and carve out time for students to speak on activities in the school. We can have a Schulyer wins portion into the agenda. Positive light-hearted things about the school. We can discuss the budget more in the meetings in relation to the goals.

Baldino – Children are not receiving the socialization that they are used to when they are in person. How can we incorporate socialization into the week? Town halls? Movie night? Where can they have the time to discuss their daily activities and needs? How will children feel physically with each other in the classroom?

Wigdorsky – We had so many pep rallies and dances and sports activities. Which activities can we transfer to the virtual world? How can we create a spirit day into a school wide event?

Gibson – Perfect Purple party. Students that have the top attendance and grades can have a celebration. Honor roll party?

Vergara – We can have a discussion about socio-emotional learning with students, perhaps restorative circles.

Rivera – We did do perfect attendance meetings and students of the month. Students can be invited to a movie night. We can implement this once a month. PTA has the money for these things so we can do movie nights for these students. The parent Coordinator can monitor a zoom meeting as a virtual cafe or a virtual cafeteria? We can do monthly rewards and then an end of year celebration.

We will create one questionnaire for all stakeholders.

Ms. Vergara works on creating a google form for all stakeholders to get ideas.

Possible Questions:

What kinds of clubs would you be interested in-person and virtually?

Wigdorsky – We will have virtual clubs beginning on march on Thursday.

We will table the Questionnaire to the next meeting.

Q and A

What will February 25th look like?

Wigdorsky – She sent pupil path messages and a blast from the chancellor on what the return to in person learning will look like.

Richards – What has the situation room said about weekly COVID testing?

Wigdorsky – Staff has been randomly tested on a weekly basis. We are randomly required to test 20% of students and staff weekly.

6:00PM Motion to end meeting

Rivera – second the motion.
